I miss my Mother’s voice, yelling to us five girls, and two boys,
“shut off the lights, and knock off the noise!”
I miss giggling with my sisters, Christmas Eve, so excited we couldn’t fall asleep.
I miss the one gift we opened on Christmas Eve, knowing full well, they were new pajamas for sleep.
I miss my oldest sister Robin, waking us up at the wee hours of dawn, shushing us, as we crept down the stairs, rubbing eyes, and our Christmas pajamas on.
I even miss some of those Christmas gifts, that were just not what I wanted.
I miss the stockings hung on hooks, bearing fruit, toothbrushes, candy canes, and lifesaver books.
I miss Red/stepfather in his stern voice, “Look at all the stuff they’ve gotten, you know you’re spoiling them rotten.”
I miss it all, even the fights, I miss it all especially Christmas Eve Night.
So, I hope all of you with kids, make them feel special, as my Mother did.
It’s not about how much you give, it’s about how much love there is.
Have a Very Merry Christmas, and Believe,
You too can make fond memories on Christmas Day, and Christmas Eve.
